First self-help group for chronic wounds founded in Vienna

Based on the findings of the Ludwig Boltzmann Research Group: Senescence and Healing of Wounds, a self-help group was set up in cooperation with two affected people.

The initiators of the self-help group are keen to create a space for mutual exchange of experiences. The aim is to promote the empowerment of the participants and to strengthen their health literacy. Experts are therefore invited to give lectures or workshops on various topics, such as the provision of aids, expanding the exercise repertoire, nutrition-specific topics or the possibilities of financial or psychological support.

Moreover, the initiators emphasize raising awareness in professional care as a common concern in order to achieve the best possible care for people with chronic wounds. Public relations and lobbying are equally important in order to raise social awareness of chronic wounds and to give a strong voice to those affected.
